What is The Yoga + Tea Experience?
The Yoga +
Tea Experience is a yoga salon and tea space hosted by Joseph Reid +
Taiyo Okamoto.
We nurture your joy and indulge
your awareness with moments of comfort. We create holistic events
interweaving invigorating and restorative yoga practice, unique tea
enjoyments, meditation, artist exchange, tasty desserts and sharing good
energy to synchronize your body & soul.
The idea was born quite simply over a text between the two
friends, when Taiyo suggested that Joseph serve a tea at one of his
yoga classes, jasmine-lemon to be exact.
They began hosting the monthly event in November 2008 as an afternoon retreat for friends, yogis, and tea lovers to meet, practice, laugh, meditate, transform and enjoy delicious teas, sweets and precious times in supportive and casual atmosphere.
About your hosts...
Joseph Reid, CYT, began his yoga practice in 1997 and has been teaching since 2004. He is fortunate to have studied with Genny Kapuler and Kevin Gardiner of the Iyengar Institute, Dharma Mittra, Rod Stryker, Kathy Elder, Tyr Throne and Aaron Star. Being immersed in the disciplines of Hatha, Vinyasa, Bikram, Restorative, Yin and Tantra, he finds the most authentic answer to the question "What style do you teach?" is "Joseph Style": embracing life with integration, celebration and playful curiosity. He enjoys breathing, cooking, getting LOST, the beach and learning how to restore green to our spaceship Earth. Joseph has led classes in various locales and situations from the Merce Cunningham Dance Company 2005 European tour, to St. Mark's High School student retreat on an Iroquois reservation, to expats in a sweltering Sai Gon, to Bavarian ladies on a mountain in Bali, to nude couples yoga at Burning Man. Available for private instruction and small group classes, email Joseph.
Taiyo Okamoto is a writer and film critic living in NY. Growing up in Japan, he was not really aware of the importance of tea in his home culture. But an encounter with Ines Sun, an owner of a tea place in Manhattan inspired his passion. Now, he enjoys his life with tea. He owned Bonjin Cafe with his friend in Williamsburg.
